John asks…
What can I do to stop losing hair on my head?
I’m 38 yr old (african) my head is going bald right. what food can I eat to stop losing hair on my head?
sam smith answers:
It depends on why you’re losing it! It could just be ageing.
But even if it is, you can slow it down.
Fish Oil, water, biotin (a B Complex Vitamin would be your best bet) and scalp massages will probably slow things down considerably and improve the quality of the growth.
The Sulfates in your shampoo can cause you to bald at a younger age. Especially for men, seeing as their scalps are more sensitive (I think I read it’s linked to why men bald much more commonly than women, don’t quote me on that though). Switch to a natural shampoo! Preferably a rosemary or menthol shampoo (you can try two in one even) for scalp stimulation.
Get lots of sleep, protein, and exercise.
MSM makes the growth cycle last longer, but doesn’t help with new hair.
Best of luck 🙂
Thomas asks…
If i start using biotin it helps to stop hair losing?
If not how can i stop losing hair? I want to grow my hair long how it is possible? Pls help frnds
sam smith answers:
Do you know what’s in the biotin?
Biotin – cauliflower, liver, salmon, carrots, bananas, cereals, yeast, and soy flour. Keep in mind that biotin content is reduced when food is cooked or preserved. One YA poster caused her to have major breakouts from supplements. Another poster said: ”
i took biotin to grow my hair out, and it ended up falling out too!! It was worse around my bang area, like where you part it, there waas a huge patch of hair missing so i had to move my part for 5 months!”
You need to know the ’cause’ before you can find ‘solution’ and when you know the ’cause’ eliminate them, and your hair will improve.
Reasons why that might have happened, below is a short form of why.
1. During the last 3 years, OK 2, how have you been styling or have you been straightening & dyeing or highlighting your hair?
Google FDA website Hair dye & relaxers. Those are 75% the reason why.
2. Have you been taking supplements or using hair oil? Supplements ($42 billions are wasted and could hurt your lungs, liver, organs even HAIR LOSS). FDA has found that from face creams to soaps and other items of personal care, cosmetics companies are taking the general public for a ride. Oil could be coming from eels or shark. Another 5% why. CNN, Slate, Consumer Reports, MSN, YAHOO have posted them online for years how people spend $20 billion per year on vitamins and supplements. According to Everyday Health, here’s an article that will tell you why . . . Those PRODUCTS by any other name do NOT WORK. It is false advertisements. Google: Are Supplements Good For You? About 7,430,000 results (0.15 seconds) Google: Are vitamins & supplements good for you? About 4,250,000 results (0.14 seconds) Some can actually shorten your life! The Food & Drug do not approve of them!
3. Have you been stressed out or changed your diet? Genetics of balding runs in your family? Another 10% why.
4. Have you been taking medications with testosterone, certain antidepressants, menopause, anti-acne? Even birth control pills can cause hair loss. The medication most often prescribed for thyroid disorders can actually cause hair loss. Another 10% why you have hair falls.
Eliminate the cause and your hair will improve.
Dove hairfall facts:
1. Humidity makes hair dry and brittle, leading to hairfall
2. Colouring the hair damages the hair strands leading to breakage
3. Pollution is also an unseen killer of healthy hair
4. Tangled hair is the most common reason for hair fall
5. While shampooing cleanses your hair, regular conditioning is required for adequate moisturization. Regular use of conditioner post shampoo also solves the problem of entangling which is the major cause of hairfall.
For women: A simple blood test can reveal the root of the problem. Unfortunately, those who do see a physician right away make the mistake of going to a dermatologist rather than their primary care physician. Most dermatologists will review the physical signs of hair loss and diagnose it as female pattern baldness. Your primary care physician will run tests to diagnose the problem so you can take steps to correct it.
Eliminate cause and your hair will improve. Not overnight, it could take weeks, months, even years, since it took that long to start the hair loss.
If you think they’re from your beauty or hair products:
Take it back to where you bought it.
Stop using it ASAP.
You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs & cosmetics to the FDA. Visit the FDA MedWatch website or call 1-800-FDA-1088.
Google: Glossary of Hair Loss Terms. There are 179 entries in this glossary. Stress is just one of the 179 listed.
Again, a simple rule of thumb: Look for the American Hair Loss Association seal when considering purchasing any product or service to treat your hair loss.
> > > ONE treatment called DNCB — applying an ointment that burns the scalp in hopes of stimulating hair growth. It was a treatment so painful that her head was at times left feeling raw.
Helen asks…
How do I feel better about losing my hair at 28 years old?
Since the age of 22 I’ve been losing my hair. It’s only become really noticeable over the past few years, where people are now commenting on how thin my thatch looks. Last year, I visited my local hairdressers – a woman I had been going to since I was 16 years old – and remember the look of horror in her face as she examined my hair. In a shocked tone, she informed me that I was losing my hair. I died a bit inside.
Looking at photos from 5 / 6 years ago – when I had a reasonably thick, full head of hair – makes me sad. I no longer feel like the best version of myself and it stops me being the outgoing person I once was. I am becoming obsessed with how my hair appears in certain lightings and environments – if there is a reflection that I can glance in, I will. My friends call me vein and self-obsessed for doing this, but they don’t know the real reason why I am doing it. Seeing people waltz down the street with slick, full heads of hair makes me feel resentful, ugly and inferior. Whenever someone points out my receding hairline or makes a joke about it I get upset and can respond in anger. This has caused fall-outs as the people making the comments think I am being ‘touchy’ for getting so worked up about it. Recently I was at the funeral of a loved one, it was a beautiful service but I was so self-conscious about my hair that all I could think about was how relatives would perceive my appearance. I tend to dodge having my photo taken nowadays as certain photos can reveal the horrible truth about how thin I am going at the top. The impact this issue is having on my life is becoming so big that it is now stopping me from enjoying a normal, everyday life. I almost feel imprisoned.
I have considered shaving all my hair off but fear I will face further ridicule from people as I have a large forehead and sticky-out ears so am not convinced that I would suit it.
Hair transplants are simply too expensive for my budget, I have heard many horror stories about them going wrong and leaving people with bald heads and permanent scarring.
I had used Minoxodil for 6 or so months, it didn’t appear to make any difference whatsoever.
I have not used Propecia yet, but if all the pill is going to do is ensure that I keep my current hair then I don’t believe there is any point as my hairline is too far gone.
I have been to a consultation about wearing a wig – the product looked like a squashed, dead rat and seemed expensive(!).
Can anyone offer some kind words or helpful solutions to make me feel better about this?? Would really appreciate it. Thanks for reading.
sam smith answers:
Having a receding hairline and eventually losing your hair is nothing to be embarrassed about.
Females lose their hair too but they cover it up with wigs and there are also pens you can use to ‘colour’ in the patches that don’t have much hair.
Do you know if it’s genetic i.e. Have the men in your family had the same thing happen? It might be worth seeing a naturopath to have your hormones tested and living a healthier life – you’ll feel better and look better.
Eat well, exercise and be healthy. It will show and no-one will care about your hair. Try these things and I guarantee you they will help. Maybe you have other things in your life that you want to do but can’t and are maybe blaming the fact you don’t have much hair…? Try to love yourself a bit more – respect yourself.
I hope that helps 🙂
Oh, also, I’m also a 28 yo female and wouldn’t consider myself bad looking (if we’re going to be talking about looks) and I could not care less whether a guy is losing their hair..seriously!)

I understand 🙁 my boyfriend has pretty much lost all his hair at 23. He started losing it at around 18. People also have made comments towards him that he wasn’t happy about – but he’s learned to live with it and take it in stride, because the hair doesn’t really matter to him in the grand scheme of things. It doesn’t matter among his family and friends, it doesn’t matter in his school exams, or in the bedroom ;). Wherever it counts, hair isn’t that important. Looking in the mirror and at pictures can make him a little sad, but you have to learn to look at yourself as a whole, not as a collection of parts. The only way being bald will really affect your life is if you let it, by allowing it to depress you. Besides, balding isn’t synonymous with “unattractive”. There are women out there who find bald men particularly sexy.
Watch this, it might make you feel better: youtube dot com/watch?v=wFPjLwzL-14
Also, you might not want to use propecia – it’s been linked to erectile dysfunction:
And if you really want to have the appearance of hair, watch the documentary Mansome – there’s a scene with a really realistic toupee that might interest you.
Good luck with everything 🙂
Mary asks…
How to regrow hair or how to stop hair loss – are there any hair treatments or techniques?
I am a 30 year old woman who is losing her hair. My hair loss started when I was 24 years old. Now I have less than 30% of hair that I used to have. If the hair loss continues, I will become bald. Please help me.
sam smith answers:
Toxic shampoos are a principal cause of loss. They sicken and harm scalp and cause loss then block hair ducts and thus prevent regrowth. Do a Google “Men’s shampoos: Skin Deep Database” and “Not Just a Pretty Face.” ….and you will see countless ones that are severely harmful and others which are safe and non harming.
I truly believe I escaped the fate of my grandfather, my father, my two younger brothers and an 18 year old nephew through this treatment. All are (or were) completely, or very nearly bald. So I feel this treatment has disproved the genetics theory. Read this happy testimonial from a user on ANSWERS: Mo Sratum. You can contact him
Subject: HAIR LOSS! OMG!
“You may remember me, Mo Satrum, the guy with the constant questioning about the hair loss, well I’ve been doing it(treatment) for 2 months now and it’s working wonders! My hair loss increased the first few weeks but it gradually slowed down and my hair is gradually going back to normal as it were before. I was always told that hair loss was genetic and you could do nothing about it, but you’ve proved everyone wrong and even I had my doubts before starting your treatment but I cannot describe how much you’ve turned my life around! Thank you I don’t know where I would be without you”
In my early twenties I suffered severe loss. Treatment stopped loss and forced new growth. Many years later I still have all my hair. My hair is`now so well anchored that I do not have any loss even when I wash my hair.
TREATMENT: Massage any pure, natural oil into scalp, Extra virgin olive, coconut and grape seed work well. Then brush ALL of scalp vigorously preferably using a palm held brush with short natural boar bristles.(Quite stiff bristles are best). You can see them on Amazon – they are known as military brushes.
Brush strongly so you feel it stimulating/irritating scalp. But do not overdo it. Do 90 /110 strokes each session and focus on where loss is. You may be apprehensive about irritating scalp – believe me I was too but this is what will force new growth as it unplugs the blocked hair ducts that result in loss – they are experienced as the painful small itching spots.
As you brush some shedding and breakage may occur at first but will quickly stop as brushing makes hair better anchored and stronger. New hairs will appear and will be weak looking and sparse. Keep up the brushing and do not be concerned if brushing uproots them, as they will RE-APPEAR EVEN STRONGER and will not be uprooted.
I found it best at the beginning to apply the oil at night, do the brushing and sleep with it that way and wash off in the morning.
My hair has completely regrown on crown. Where receded at front regrowth was slower at first then each month it became denser.and has also completely regrown.
I only wash hair with totally safe pure soap or shampoo with no toxins – no toxic coloring, no toxic fragrances, no toxic preservatives, no harmful additives of any kind. You can also find them in GNC, Trader Joes, some Walmart Stores, Cost Plus, Wegmans, Earth Fare, and some natural & health foods stores.
P.S. My near bald brother is now using the treatment after seeing my great success. We had not seen each other for 15 years and he and my other totally bald brother and totally bald 18 year old nephew were all amazed to see me with all my hair. Again it clearly shows that genetics has nothing to do with hair loss.
Email me if you need more info. I can send photos and Mo Satrum will confirm the great success he also had.
