Caring For Your Hair: Treat It Like Your Best Friend!

by Colin Mccabe Leave a Comment

We all look better with styled hair that beautifully frames our face, but over-styling and primping can take a toll on your precious locks. It takes a lot of research and knowledge to figure out how to keep hair in great condition while giving it the style you want. The following article will help you get your hair into great shape and keep it that way!

Don’t use heavy conditioners if you have thin or fine hair. These weight down hair and make it seem finer and thinner. The best conditioners that avoid this problem are mouse-like conditioners and sprayed leave-in conditioners.

Here is an easy way to restore moisture to dry hair. Wet your hair quickly, and just add a pretty generous amount of conditioner. Keep the heat in by wrapping the hair in a towel or in plastic wrap. Wait about a half hour and then shampoo and rinse.

Heat styling tools, such as curling irons and straighteners can dry and damage hair. To protect the follicles on your hair, use a serum or cream prior to using heated products. These serums and creams will protect your hair against the high heat you apply to it.

When you use hair conditioner, be sure to spread it onto all areas of your hair. Also, be sure to leave conditioner on for a little bit so it can soak in, before rinsing it out.

Wait at least 48 hours after coloring your hair to shampoo. Your hair’s cuticle needs time to relax and re-seal after being subjected to chemical treatments; this keeps the color locked in longer. Simply wetting your hair can open the cuticle back up until sufficient time has passed. Your patience will be rewarded with healthy and shining hair.

Don’t use the same shampoo and conditioner over and over. Using different brands of hairdressing products every so often could produce positive results. The new brand may undo the buildup from the other brand and keep your hair and scalp looking good.

Be gentle with the towel on your hair. You can actually damage your hair this way. Gently squeeze out excess moisture, instead. Then, pat it dry with your towel. Avoid towels with abrasive materials.

Before you start using a blow dryer, make sure that you use a towel to get as much water out of your hair as possible. Using heat to dry your hair is unnatural and causes your hair damage over time. The hot air can strip the hair strands of essential oils and hydration that are critical to a healthy appearance. The more water you can remove with a towel, the less heat you’ll need with the blow dryer.

Your hair needs as much protection from the sun as your skin. When you are outside, always try to wear sport hats or use a hair spray that has a sunscreen so your hair does not become damaged. You can get a sunburn on your scalp, so using the hat can protect against that too. Also, if your hair is dyed, the color will fade when exposed to the sun.

Dandruff is a common problem and there are several different causes. Many people don’t realize that having oily hair makes it more likely that dandruff will occur. Usually it would seem that the opposite is the case. There are many choices currently available for dandruff sufferers including shampoos specifically designed to combat dandruff.

Hair that is extremely dry should be deep conditioned. If your hair is dry and brittle, you should deep condition it at home. First, simply dampen clean hair. Then use a lot of conditioner that’s thick and massage it throughout your hair. Now, don a plastic cap so that the condition can be absorbed by the hair for half an hour. Thoroughly wash and rinse your hair, and enjoy the moisture it now has.

You should not wash the hair every day. When you wash hair, you strip it of the protective and natural moisture, and your hair is more likely to be damaged. You will generally get fine results if you wash your hair one day and skip it the next. If you are not susceptible to greasy hair, you might even cut back to washing once a week.

Keep products such as gel and hairspray away from your scalp. These items could potentially clog up the pores located on your scalp and create issues with pimples or affect hair growth. Ensure you only put these products on your hair!

Curly Hair

Individuals with curly hair need only wash it twice per week. Shampoo has the ability to remove essential oils from the hair and leave curly hair looking dull. When rinsing out the shampoo, make sure it’s all rinsed out.

Hair that is too oily can be treated with certain home remedies. There are many household ingredients, such as lemon juice or vinegar, that can remove unneeded oil. These ingredients will also make your hair shine! You don’t need to shell out for expensive hair products. Instead, use common household items.

If you have curly hair, ensure that you use shampoo and conditioning product that is specific to this type. When you do this, you can feel confident that your hair is being cleaned and moisturized as much as it should be. This will help you avoid frizz, and it will give you beautiful curls that you can be proud of.

Wear a cap when swimming to protect your locks from harsh pool chemicals such as chlorine. Chlorine is harmful to hair. If a swim cap isn’t available, then you should wash your hair immediately after getting out of the pool to rinse out the chlorine.

Let your hair dry naturally so you do not cause any frizz to your hair. Even rubbing it with a towel can cause some frizz to occur. To remove excess moisture quickly, gently blot the surface of your hair with a soft cloth or towel. Avoid using heat or vigorous rubbing motions.

Great hair could be challenging to achieve, especially when we are really busy. Your hair may really suffer from the products and tools being used after some time. Hopefully, the information presented here has shown you some new ideas on how to achieve a proper balance of style, condition and great control!
